Challenge
Anyone can watch their favourite bands playing live gigs by running a Youtube search. However, the quality of video content through free video streaming sites is limited to short clips, low quality video and average sound. Music lovers want more.
Working closely with music publishers, Moshcam films and licenses live music events in high quality and publishes them on its website (Developed by Chook) for their passionate audience to stream.
Moshcam engaged Nomad to develop a mobile version of their product offering for iPhone and iPad.
Response
Nomad identified 3 core challenges for music consumption via mobile and tablet;
- Video streaming quality is often average quality and unreliable. Video needs to be high quality and robust.
- Purchasing music for future playback is generally limited to Apple’s generic store content. Users need to have access to simple purchasing solutions.
- Device limited – content delivery needs to adapt to the users time and location allowing them to watch on their iPhone on the train, iPad on the couch and on Apple TV the lounge room.
Answering the 3 core challenges, the solution provides users with simple 1 click payment for high quality video content using adaptive bitrate streaming of high quality video content anywhere, anytime across their iPhone, iPad and onto their Apple TV.
We also utilised a simple sign up tool using Facebook or Twitter to register, integrating with Moshcam’s existing CMS. This also allows users to post to their wall/feed from within the app about the content their watching.
Behind a slick interface and custom video player, Nomad developed a robust solution connecting to Moshcam’s existing content delivery network, CRM, CMS and a complex Viocorp/Akamai video streaming service.
Results
The largest immediate result for Moshcam was the successful deployment of a new revenue channel for their business in the form of an iPhone and iPad app. Managing the strategic deployment to key media channels at launch secured fantastic awareness and drove downloads.
While estimating app downloads is a challenge, original expectations were that the app should achieve around 25,000 downloads. In the first month the app achieved over 40,000!
Essential to the high download figure was our successful collaboration with Moshcam in the management of the Apple editorial team to optimize our chance for high exposure. The app was featured as app of the week in the app store for iPhone and iPad – a powerful accolade for any application.
The media attention included over 200 stories in the press as well as countless blog posts, social updates and even a Tweet from Stephen Fry!
Importantly, analytics show that Moshcam has secured a new audience in new time and locations;
The iPhone and iPad apps have increased monthly unique users by an additional 40%
Nomad’s committed efforts to deliver a premium product for Moshcam has provided a foundation for our future growth. The Nomad team share a passion and expertise for product development on every detail they manage within the app. With Nomad as partners we’re set for ongoing success with the mobile, tablet and smart TV evolution.
